ROUND 5.1 LIVE DREAM TEAM WEEKEND CHAT

We are underway, again. Did you run the vice-captaincy loophole? I went Smurf after Pendlebury didn’t quite get the job done. Swanlow did & I contemplated giving him the job before running with Pendles.  Mark your scores in the usual format. Good luck to your teams this weekend. Throw in sub news, league comments, injuries, changes etc in the comments thread with your score.

ROUND 2 DREAM TEAM CHAT DIVISION 1 REVIEW

How did your team go on the weekend? How about your rivals? Division 1 rose ninety three positions in the league rankings to 261 with a league average of 2032, so well done to everybody. Lets see if we can’t improve our position this week. Don’t forget partial lockout is tomorrow for Essendon & Collingwood players. Reversible trades become irreversible @ that point so you need to be across that. More details about the round, including results, ladders & analysis in the comments thread. Feel free to add your own.

ABLETT OUT 2-3 WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

This isn’t necessarily a 2-3 week injury as revealed in this clip by Marcus Ashcroft when he said “hopefully for him it’ll be a 2-3week injury”. That implies that it maybe a little bit more serious than a 2-3 week injury, which may mean that the Gold Coast Suns are lying to the media. This is obviously a shock because AFL clubs NEVER lie to the public & the media. How many weeks does the little master need to miss before you’ll trade him?

SUNDAY NIGHT DREAM TEAM CHAT

Well, it looks like it has been a tough week for many. How did you go? I’m struggling along, my two recruits Whitecross & Stanley combining for 93 pathetic points which are the two lowest individual scores of the weekend so far. Cheers. Martin went bang! with 96, Ellis fired up with 89, Morriss scored better in SC. Giles did his job & covered Mummy with a century, I am considering my options with Mummy, he nearly became 211 late Friday afternoon. Heater is another to come under the microscope. Will probably struggle to post many wins and need Magnet to tonne up for me to crack 2000. I’ve had my worst start since I first started playing this game. Need a liitle luck to go my way.

Whack your scores, team analysis and judgements in the comment thread. Hope your team went well & you beat your opponent -unless it’s me :P

DREAM TEAM LIVE CHAT ROUND 4

Rumours circulating that Grant Birchall will be a late withdrawal this weekend so make sure you have a defensive emergency switched on in your back 7. Ditto for Fyfe as well, not to mention Sam Gilbert. Know any other late changes? Got the good oil on subs? Maybe you just wanna talk Dream Team footy? The comments box is here to capture your thoughts, so use it. Good luck to your teams.

2. Buddy Franklin 106.67/320/174

3. Mitch Robinson 103.67/311/107

4. Chad Cornes 100.67/302/75

5. Brent Harvey 100/300/101

7. Kurt Tippett 95.67/287/100

OFF THE BENCH

8. Steele Sidebottom 95/285/116

9. Nick Riewoldt 93/279/104

EMERGENCY

10. Michael Johnson 91.67/275/58

Whitecross is the go to guy if you wanna forward. Rhys Stanley from St.Kilda is a great go down option @ 226k. Keep an eye on Beams, he may be a good pick up in 2-4 weeks time. Interesting that Pav & Goodes are not in this list. Watch out for Didak as a potential pick up moving forward as well. Michael Johnson is the best def/fwd in the game @ the minute. Who saw that coming?

DREAM TEAM CHAT’S TOP 10 RUCKS

How are you set for your Rucks? Format is Average/Total Score/Breakeven. Breakeven’s pinched from Too Serious whilst Walsey was looking the other way. Go visit them in another tab, for all of your dream team break even’s.

STARTERS

1. Patrick Ryder 110.33/331/106

2. Aaron Sandilands 105.67/317/119

OFF THE BENCH

3. Dean Cox 95/285/192

4. Hamish McIntosh 89.33/268/14

EMERGENCIES

5. Sam Jacobs 89/267/143

6. Matthew Kreuzer 87.33/262/86

7. Jonathan Giles 82/246/-33

8. Ben McEvoy 81/243/155

9. Ivan Maric 80/240/58

10. Will Minson 79.67/239/125

SUMMARY

HMac & Giles provide the value, although you are only looking @ ruck trades if you buggered your initial selection, have Louie. or an itchy trigger finger. DO NOT TRADE RUCKS IN THIS WEEK. Unless it is Giles. Cox & Mumford -153- will drop, Sandi probably will drop, McEvoy & Jacobs will drop. There will be some good ruck prices over the next 3 weeks. If you can cover Louie, the bargains will be there for the taking.

DREAM TEAM CHAT’S TOP 10 MIDFIELDERS

SO most of us obviously have Gary @ #1, but, how do you match up against the top midfielders in the AFL according to the numbers? The numbers reveal a lot of new names, although things may settle down as we move through the early rounds of this marathon season. Still, it is good to know why you shouldn’t be scoffing @ your opponent if s/he has S. Selwood, Stanton & Ward in her/his midfield. Feel free to spread the good oil in the comments section below. Format is avg/total score/breakeven. I take my b/e’s from Too Serious, feel free to open them up in a new tab.

STARTERS

1. Gary Ablett 147/441/123

2. Matthew Boyd 129/387/151

3. Scott Selwood 126.33/379/62

4. Marc Murphy 123.33/370/151

5. Brett Stanton 120.67/362/181

6. Chris Judd 117.67/353/116

OFF THE BENCH

7. Brendon Goddard 116.33/349/104

8. Callan Ward 115.33/346/80

EMERGENCIES

9. Sam Mitchell 115.33/346/183

10. Jobe Watson 114.33/343/132

SUMMARY

Get around Scott Selwood and his 62pt breakeven if you think he can maintain his present form. Stanton seems to be calming down from his early season scores, but an 181 pt breakeven will see his value drop. Mitchell & Murphy will come down in price so wait a week or 3 before u/g here. Boyd should come down in price, although, Boyd vs the Dees may see Boyd surpass his break even.

Ablett is poised to make some more money, but you started with GAJ, right? Judd is best value of the top 10, but really this is a week to either invest in a developing mid, maybe take the risk with Treloar or Neale, or better still, just stay out of the midfield marketplace this week.

DREAM TEAM CHAT’S TOP 10 DEFENDERS

How many of the top ten defenders do you have in your side? Scoring format is Average/Total Score/Breakeven. Breakeven stats from the wonderful Too Serious site.

STARTERS

1. Brendon Goddard 116.33/349/104

2. Brett Deledio 114/312/92

3. Heath Scotland 102.67/308/127

4. Shannon Hurn 101.33/304/50

5. Andrew Carrazzo 98/294/143

6. Bachar Houli 97.33/292/86

7. Alex Rance 96.67/290/57

OFF THE BENCH

8. Josh Gibson 94/282/32

9. Grant Birchall 93/279/159

EMERGENCY

10. Sean Dempster 93/279/36

SUMMARY

AVOID Scotland & especially Birchall. Hurn, Gibson, Dempster & Rance have a lot of growth in them so get on if you can. Gibson & Dempster would be fairly unique picks @ this stage. Who do you think coaches should be avoiding or grabbing this week? Whack your thoughts in the comment thread.

“O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN”

Well. Is it Gary, or, do you not have him in your side? Hard to see anyone with Gary giving the job to someone else, but, we’ll whack this poll up in case you like Penders on the rebound, Boyd, Scott Selwood -outscoring both of his brother’s- or even Caaarlton gun, Marc Murphy.

MONDAY MORNING POST MORTEM

How did you fare on the weekend? Better than me & my 1934 I hope, my lowest score in quite a while, winning one league battle out of five in an abysmal effort. Many of us are waiting on Fyfe news, but, it looks like an unwanted trade is on the cards. Dusty is causing concerns, Heater performed better, and, Lake may be on report for what has been documented as a ‘love tap’. So what is on your menu this week? trading? holding? Whack your trading plans, your scores and league results here.

Feel free to whack subs, rumours, scores in here etc etc. Hope your team wins this weekend unless its Caaarlton. GO PIES!!!! :) I have made two sneaky last minute rookie trades bringing in Greene & Milera. First two of the year. How are you going on the trade front?

GEELONG ROOKIE, OUT!

As I understand it, Billie Smedts has a shoulder niggle and will miss 1 week. Amend your team accordingly ensuring that he is not on-field or an emergency. I’d be ensuring that you have a ruck emergency selected if you have Mumford as your ruckman.

DREAM TEAM DILEMMA

Umming and aaahing over whether to trade or hold Lake. I have Guthrie, on an extended interchange bench, his fate may be the vest, or emergency, whilst Clarke, named on interchange bench, at least should play. I have Ellis as coverage.

Heath Shaw needs to lift and give a bit more than 56. He needs to be delivering like Goddard & Lids. I am sure that he will come good against the tiges on saturday night.

The bigger issue is in my mids….I have Caddy @ M5 in my team, but, on an extended bench @ Gold Coast. My coverage comes at present from Smith, who has also been named on the bench, and who, may be given the vest, with Shiel, waiting in the wings. Shiel, who would normally start, isn’t, due to his shortened pre-season. He may need the extra week or two to run into match fitness.

Who would you play?

ROUND 2.1 DREAM TEAM LIVE CHAT

I’ll be away from the screen for a while so I thought I’d generate this thread for those who want a place to comment on tonight’s game, subs, selection issues, rumours, or the upcoming games on the weekend. Teams are in the thread below, which is you should place your comments. Good luck to your players tonight, and, good luck if you are running the captaincy loophole. I’ll put some stuff up as soon as I’m back on line.

CAPTAINCY CHOICE ROUND 2

The captaincy loophole exists this round. How it works is fairly simple. Simply choose someone playing in tonight’s Brisbane v Carlton game as vice-captain. If he tears it apart with a fantastic score, bring a non-playing bench player on field and make him your captain, and then, on the same line as your captain, place someone who is playing on the bench and make him an emergency. If your vice-captain doesn’t give you the score that you require, then you proceed as normal, making GAJ, Penders or whomever else as captain.

Speaking of GAJ & Pendlebury, are you going with one of the perma-captains this week? Or, are you looking elsewhere? Swan v Rich, Buddy v a Scarlett-less Geelong, NDS, or Goddard v Gold Coast. Maybe, you want the competition leader, Stanton, or his skipper, Jobe Watson v Port @ Ethihad, or, maybe you have someone better in mind? In that case, whack your captaincy selection in the comments thread below.

BRENT STANTON, #1 PLAYER IN DREAM TEAM

Essendon‘s Brent Stanton is the number 1 ranked dream team player after running amok against North Melbourne last Sunday. His 153, was 17 more than GAJ’s 136. He scored 11 centuries last year, ranging between 103-141, which he accomplished twice. He had four scores between 80-99, two in the 70′s one 66 and a 30 vs West Coast in Round 7. He averaged 99.01 and happened to score hundreds in 8 of his last ten games-his other two were 81 & 96-as well as in his last 5 games of the season. He is currently a fantastic, unique pick that features in 3,014 teams. Is he in yours?

DEFENSIVE TRADING STRATEGIES

Say you’ve got Brian Lake and you’ve decided to trade. Who are you going to recruit to allow your defensive group to take that next step?

GREG BROUGHTON….YES OR NO

Greg started the game so well before Ross Lyon moved him onto the dangerous Stevie J, then Broughton’s score disintegrated. At his best, Broughton is dream team gold, one of several Fremantle players to give us consistent dream team joy, a premium that is one of the first picked in our teams, however, is this Lyon move a sign of things to come? Can you afford to gamble on a premium that could become a tagger any tick of the clock?

SCOTT PENDLEBURY….IS HE IN YOUR SIDE?

Collingwood’s silky smooth Scott Pendlebury racked up an impressive 136 points in Collingwood’s loss to Hawthorn last friday night. Was he in your team, and, if not, will you snap him up?

MONDAY POST-GAME RECOVERY

MY top defensive score -Bugg 97- was on the bench as was Kennedy’s 116 which would have been handy additions to my barely adequate 2029. My defenders were the weak link with Heater & Lake being the main culprits. Mids performed well with 5 hundreds & Caddy scooping 79. Rucks good & fwd’s should get some improvement out of the rookies. Not generally interested in trading this week unless something irresistable pops up, how about you?
