RUCK DUO’S….HELP OR HINDRANCE?

More and more, clubs are running the 1-2 ruck punch instead of the one premium ruck. How does it effect your DT scoring potential when your prem is languishing in the forward 50, or, worse, the bench?

Can you really rely on Mummy, when we do not not know how the combination with Seaby is going to work. Certainly, if my memory is correct, Seaby was the #1 ruck last year before his injury. It is likely that he will spend considerable time in the ruck, especially, given that Mummy has had his own injury issues as well.

The same issue applies to North with Goldstein & MacIntosh, yet, if these two clubs take a leaf out of West Coast’s book, it may work out alright as Nic Nat & Massive look like they will score well for us coaches.

Brisbane poses a different problem with Louie & Longer. Longer is of course untested, but has great potential. Louie had a breakout year last year, especially in the last 2 months or so. Expect, that Brisbane will manage this situation like they did with Louie when he first came into the system, which means plenty of game time for Louie, less for Longer.

G.W.S have an interesting situation with Giles & Brogan. If you are running a 1/3 ruck set up then you probably have Giles @ R2. If you are running the 2/2 setup, he is on your bench, so, will Brogan be R1, or the reliever, taking over  when Giles is injured or fatigued. Giles isn’t a rookie, so theoretically he should be able to stand up, but…….

If you see ruck duo’s as a hindrance to be avoided, who becomes your R1? Is it a Jacobs type? The injury prone Sandilands or Jolly? The inconsistent Jamar? Or a cheapie in Ivan Maric?

Finally you have the Essendon/Carlton triple threat. Ryder/Hille/Bellchambers & Kreuzer/Warnock/Hampson. Can you rely on these type of ruck set ups?

Anyway, I now turn it over to you for your thoughts….Have I missed someone or got it completely wrong? Lemme have it!
