MONDAY MORNING GUNK – ROUND 6 RECAP, ROUND 7 TRADING STRATEGIES.

After five nice weeks building up to something, the boys crashed and burned for me this week with a pathetic 1681, my lowest ever score playing this damn game with low scores on every line to give me grief. Hartlett on debut was awful, while Buddy and Wright in the fwds not only stunk it up, but, are probably no longer worth trading until they bottom out and start to rise again in value.

I lost four of five league battles, with my only victory being over a team that scored in the 1200’s, and, can only be thankful that I had a bye in the eliminator. Shirley it can’t get any worse than this.

And how about you? Did you similarly stink it up or did your blokes get the job done for you this week. Let us all know in the comments thread below.

Feel free to open up on any trading targets you are looking at this week. I ignored Daisy last week to grab Hartlett so will be looking at that and will be assessing other injured/suspended bench dwellers such as Heppell & Fyfe.

Did you win @ eliminator?

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 DEFENDERS ROUND 3

A few familiar names are filling out the top 5 spots on the dream team chat top ten defenders list with things starting to settle down. Brendon Goddard, Dyson Heppell, Grant Birchall, Pierce Hanley & Bryce Gibbs fill the first five spots. Charlie Dixon looks a nice POD who only gave us a mid-60’s score and now needs to be monitored until we have a handle on his capacity to give us decent scores. My Port rookie defenders stunk last week, but those are the waves you surf with the younger blokes, I’m not trading defenders this week being happy enough with them at this stage. Shaun Burgoyne is the surprise packet looking like he might be returning to the numbers we’ve been waiting for since he was traded to Hawthorn.

DREAM TEAM CHAT LIVE: ROUND 3

Looking good for the Dockers so far tonight as the Dons appear to be crashing back to earth. I think Freo under Ross Lyon, are a very good footy side and will be hard to beat this year. I tipped them top 4 preseason and nothing I have seen so far has changed my mind. Fyfe seems to be getting a bit of it so far, so hopefully it’ll translate itself into a decent score. Goddard id looking good, but Duffield is on fire!!!! Heppell starting slowly and Kommer looks ok. Stanton has got 63 and my pick, Michael Barlow is on 48. What are your expectations this week for ya boys? Jump on the comment thread and let us know your thoughts and hopes, and give us the good oil if you know of any late changes, subs, injuries, shenanigan’s, gossip etc in the thread below. Leave your progress scores in the comment thread as well. Scores should be listed in the traditional score/players used/captain played (yes/no or name him) 1237/11/Jobe. Or in my case, Ablett.

Good luck this weekend to all of your teams. Feel free to chat about anything mentioned here or anything else fantasy football or footy related at any time across the weekend.

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 FORWARDS ROUND 2

Westhoff is No 1 ranked forward this week, Josh Kennedy entered my team, and probably yours in exchange for Karnezis who you probably traded out as well…. Bartell, Chappy, Rockliff and Nick Roo look nice selections so far, whilst Missy drops down to ninth from top spot and ,Gia crashed out of the top 10 alltogether. My forward line stunk last week so it can can only get better, or at least, that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

Who have you got and who are you upgrading/downgrading this week if at all?

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 RUCKS ROUND 2

My rucks were a little under par in Round 2 with Maric & Louie grabbing me 77 & 74 respectively, so O am hoping for a better return in these two. Happy enough with Blicavs giving me 57 points while Currie is the only bloke in my squad not playing next week. Might turn him into Rowe on the bubble next week if he shows something this week.. Kruezer looks to be having a breakout year, and how about Minson & Pyke? I wonder how many of you have either of them. How is your ruck division coming together? Hopefully better than mine!

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 MIDFIELDERS ROUND 2

Now for the all important midfield engine, the area where games are often won and lost, but appears to have it’s fair share of diversity with new faces and a few rookies looking like they may be keepers. Some of us will probably need some time to let the dust settle before the figures sense, others have already traded in Andrew Swallow or Jobe Watson. Three Essendon players in the top 5 is pretty good going. Stanton started well last season as well. Swanlow and Dependlebury are in the lower reaches of the top 10, but Kennedy, Dangerfield, J.Selwood, Shuey, Cotchin, Murphy, Judd & Ablett are all not in the top 10, but we’ll see how it settles down over the next month or so. How are you placed?

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 DEFENDERS ROUND 2

A few familiar and few unusual names in the first dream team top ten defenders list, although it is starting to settle down. Preseason favourites, Dyson Heppell, Grant Birchall and Bryce Gibbs fill the first three spots. Hanley has been a great performer, whilst Goddard & Waters look ready to pounce. Charlie Dixon looks a nice POD that everybody is identifying and, don’t forget Heath Shaw who returned to the Collingwood team with 102 in the win against Caaarlton, and will be on the bubble next week. How many of the top ten do you have? Do you plan on trading in a defender this week? I traded Vlastuin for Heath to shore up the backline nicely, everyone playing, everyone scored well last week, is it too much to hope for a repeat performance?

O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN ROUND 3

Are you trusting Gary to bounce back or are you running with competition top dog, Brent Stanton, Howlett, or Jobe Watson, “who is so hot right now”. maybe you are going to trust Penders, Swanlow, either of the Swallows, Goddard, Massive or one of the Freo blokes, Barlow, Mundy or Fyfe to get the job done right? Maybe you like JPK, Danger, Buddy who usually like the pies, or maybe you think Relton Roberts, Dusty, Lid’s, Maric or Cotchin should be selected as part of the Richmond revival? Maybe it is someone else. Whomever it is, let us all know in the Round 3 captains poll and the thread below.

DREAM TEAM CHAT LIVE: ROUND 2

Looking good for the tiges tonight, Martin seems to be getting a bit of it so far and hopefully it’ll translate itself into a decent score. What are your expectations this week for ya boys? Let us know, and give us the good oil if you know of any late changes, subs, shenanigan’s, gossip etc in the thread below. Scores should be listed in the traditional score/players used/captain played (yes/no or name him).

Hope your team wins ….. unless it’s the bluebaggers 😛

TRADING POLICIES

With the changes in trading numbers this year, the need to hold onto an under-performing player has diminished greatly. Has your policy evolved? Will you be trading this week? If so why? injuries to Broughton or someone forced your hand? how many trades? And more importantly who? Did you bring Wines & Crouch back into the fold? Are you pulling the trigger on a trade for R1 high scorers, Missy Higgins or Andrew Swallow, …. or Michael Barlow like I did about 10 minutes ago? Maybe you have a different logic so spill the beans in the thread below, and let us all know about it.

O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN

So gets the big job this weekend? Last week 36% of you went with Gary, I suspect that he might have more support this week. Mind you, last week Andrew Swallow outscored him, or, maybe you think the Collingwood boys Swan & Pendles will get the job done against the blue blaggers on sunday arvo. Comment below in the usual place. Especially if you believe that it is bad luck to have your captain play too early in the fixture. I like to have my captain play as late as possible and have been known to sort a difficult captaincy selection by choosing whomever plays last. Crazy? or Sage thinking. Let me know either way.

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 FORWARDS ROUND 1

Missy Higgins @ 1??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Remember all those times we picked him for his DPP staus, his potential to peel off centuries like Bradman and all that ruined by injury after injury after injury after injury? Remember how he didn’t appear injured the last year or two but wasn’t scoring? SO DO I……but he appears to be back, or about to get injured? Jumping on? I nearly did earlier on today.

Chappy and Gia simultaneous appearance in the top 10 with Missy makes me think that this is a list from 5 years ago…..

All we need is Roo, Did’s, ROK, Goodes and the Brown dog, then we are good to go.

Who have you got and who are you upgrading/downgrading this week if at all?

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 RUCKS ROUND 1

Don’t know about you, but my rucks fairly stunk in Round 1 with the Louie plan blowing up in my face and Blicavs giving me 32 points. I’m looking at jumping on Mummy. How did your ruck division come together? Hopefully better than mine, for your sake.

DREAM TEAM CHAT TOP 10 MIDFIELDERS ROUND 1

Now for the all important midfield engine, the area where games are often won and lost, but appears to have it’s fair share of diversity with new faces and a few rookies looking like they may be keepers. Some of us will probably need some time to let the dust settle before the figures sense, others have already traded in Andrew Swallow or Michael Barlow. How are you placed?

ROUND 1 POST MORTEM

How did your blokes fare over the weekend? My 1869 reflected a dysfunctional forward line, lack of premium productivity & ruck problems. Strange thing is that this team looked so potent a week or so ago. Looked stronger than my super coach side which started off nicely. Either way, changes need to be made down my way.

And what about you? Who really impressed you? Who stunk it up? Who got injured? And what are you going to do about it? Reveal all in the comment thread below.

MATTY BOYD OUT & INJURY LIST

ADELAIDE

BRODIE SMITH

Out for four weeks with a collarbone.

LUKE BROWN

Is still a chance for R2 depending on how his foot heals.

BRISBANE

MATTHEW LUENBERGER

Rated by Voss as being a 50/50 chance to return from his achilles/back.

BRENT STAKER

Still 1-2 weeks away recovering from surgery on his left knee.

SIMON BLACK

Should be available R 4. Looks to have recovered from his knee and is building his conditioning.

MICHAEL CLOSE

Out for two months or so with his foot.

CARLTON

JARRAD WAITE

Recovering from his calf and wont be back for a while. Trade him out if you have him.

ANDREW MCINNES

Wont return from his knee until early June.

COLLINGWOOD

DALE THOMAS

Outside chance for R1. Has recovered from his ankle and is building up his tank. Could be a sneaky trade in about 6-8 weeks.

LUKE BALL

Hamstring problems have waylaid his recovery from his knee forcing a wave of trading in dream team and super coach. He may be a couple away.

BEN REID

Still only rated a 50/50 for R1. Wouldn’t surprise if Pies err on the side of caution and sit him out.

ALAN DIDAK

Being managed and conditioned on return from a hammy. Wont play R1 and quite possibly may not return to R3 or thereabouts.

LACHLAN KEEFE

Wont be back from his knee till mid season.

BRODIE GRUNDIE

Has stress fractures in his back and wont be back for two months.

TIM BROOMHEAD

Has just been placed on the long term injury list with glandular fever. No return date at this stage.

ESSENDON

Jason Wingerlich is close to returning from a groin but wont be available R1.

FREMANTLE

AARON SANDILANDS

All kinds of numbers are being thrown up as he deals with his hamstring but the reality is he isn’t playing anytime soon so if you have him trade him.

ANTHONY MORABITO

He has had LARS so might be back sooner than we think. Which isn’t soon.

GEELONG

HAMISH MCINTOSH

Wont be back from his knee anytime soon with no return date specified at this stage by the Cats.

JOSH HUNT

In doubt for R1, but looks to be over his glandular fever and may yet get picked.

MATTHEW STOKES

No return date yet set on Stokes return from his ankle.

TRENT WEST

An outside smoky to be picked for R1, so must be healed from his knee and building up conditioning. This might have some implications for Blicavs so is worth monitoring.

DANIEL MENZEL

Might play R1 in the VFL after LARS surgery appears to be successful. You’d think he’d be 2-4 weeks off senior footy though.

DAWSON SIMPSON

Out for eight weeks after having back surgery.

GOLD COAST

NATHAN BOCK

Could well be picked for R1, but doesn’t appear likely.

SEB TAPE & TRENT MACKENZIE

Both returning from knee problems and wont be playing any time soon from all reports.

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

MATTHEW BUNTINE

Has a bung lung and will miss eight weeks.

CHAD CORNES

Out for 8-10 weeks as Cornes recovers from knee surgery.

DOM TYSON

Tyson’s knee will keep him out for five months.

JAMES GROWDEN

Growden is on a modified program returning from a hip and is four to five weeks away.

HAWTHORN

LUKE HODGE

Could play R1 in the VFL or even be a sneaky chance of selection in the seniors. Either way, you are better off watching him on return before committing.

CYRIL RIOLI

Back in full training after his ankle so may come close to senior selection, but may be held back til R2.

MICHAEL OSBORNE

No word yet on Osborne’s return from his knee.

ALEX WOODWARD BRENDAN WHITECROSS & MATT SUCKLING

All out indefinitely or for the season after doing knees.

MELBOURNE DEMONS

MITCH CLARK & JACK TRENGOVE

Neither are fit enough for a return in R1 from their foot problems but one or both might get selected anyway.

MAX GAWN

Is getting closer to a return from his knee but needs to get fitness & conditioning into him. Maybe 1-2 months away?

SAM BLEASE

Will return from his ankle in 4-6 weeks.

NORTH MELBOURNE

Have a clean bill of health.

PORT POWER

ROBBIE GRAY

Has been declared ready for senior selection.

BRENDAN AH CHEE

Out for one week with a knee.

NIC SALTER

Out for six weeks with a foot.

RICHMOND

DYLAN GRIMES

Back in full training after his hamstring building up his conditioning. Uncertain return date.

NATHAN FOLEY

Will not return from his achilles until R5-7 at this stage.

DAVID ASTBURY

About three weeks away from returning from his foot.

ST.KILDA

SAM FISCHER

Pulled up sore and will be tested.

SEAN DEMPSTER

Out with a hamstring, out for maybe 2-3 weeks?

RHYS STANLEY

Is 50/50 for R1/

TOM SIMPKIN

Could be selected this week in the seniors after an injury interrupted pre season.

JACKSON FERGUSON

Unspecified return date for this knee injury victim.

SYDNEY

GARY ROHAN

The Swans have swung an ‘indefinite’ sign around Gary’s neck in his return from a leg.

SAM NAISMITH

Out for four to five weeks with a thumb.

ALEX JOHNSON

Out for the year with a knee.

MARK LECRAS

The frenchman will miss at least four wih his arm.

DANIEL KERR

Unlikely to be back before R2 from his knee but is back in full training.

SHARRAD WELLINGHAM

Still four weeks away after doing his knee on a trampoline.

MATT ROSA

Will miss six weeks with a thigh.

JAMIE BENNELL

Rookie listed player wont return from his knee until mid year.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

MATTHEW BOYD

Has done a hammy and will miss three weeks.

ROUND 1 REFLECTIONS PART 1

How did you start? I’m sitting on 361/5/N

The most disturbing thing about my scoring spread is that I have a collection of scores from players that I shall be expecting more from this year.

Heppell 76

Goddard 71

Fyfe 80

Cox 82

Shuey 52

Shuey was the disappointment scoring less than my emergency, Kommer (60).

How did you go? Nominate your scores in the score/players used/captain used-not used or name style. Cheers

REPLACING AARON SANDILANDS IN YOUR DREAM TEAM?? WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?

Some of us have been seduced by the powerful scores that 211 regularly conjures up, me included, but now with him going down, we need to look at some options for that all important R1 position. Thanks to the awesome folk at TOO SERIOUS, reliable facts are available.

Dean Cox: $512,400 Averaged 99 in 2012, 108 in 2011, 85 in 2010, 107 in both 2009 & 2008 and 101 in 2006.

One of my favourite Dream Team players, Massive saw his average drop nine points last year as Nic Nat’s influence increased. Nic Nat is recovering from injury meaning that Massive will have an opportunity for high scoring. He is also a ruck/fwd dpp so is a definite potential choice. Maybe a better selection in the forward line in conjunction with Sam Rowe @ R4? This certainly will help if Louie isn’t ready for R1, and lets face it, how many teams have you seen that DON’T have Louie @ R2??

Ivan Maric: $505, 400 Had a breakout 99 avg year @ Richmond last year after a few years of struggle @ the Adelaide Crows where he was never the #1 ruckman. Question is, can he replicate his excellent first year @ tigerland? If he can, he is a ‘must pick’.

Jarryd Roughead: $472, 200 Born again as a ruckman/forward over the last two years averaging 91 in 2012 and 86 in 2011 when the change was made out of necessity by Clarko. This pulled his numbers away from the mid 70’s irrelevancy that he was heading towards after two years of 70 in 2010 & 73 in 2009. Back then, many of us were badly burnt for backing him after his 81 average in the Hawks last premiership year.

If he is a ruck/forward then he will probably average 90+, but, if Hawthorn can keep Bailey on the park and Hale plays, then Roughy’s role will probably go back to the second key position player in the forward fifty. Throw in the the Buddy situation and you have a bloke who might find himself shackled to the forward in case Franklin walks to Freo, GWS, or West Coast to be with great mate and ex-housemate, Sharrod Wellingham at the end of the year. One to watch before committing to I think.

Paddy Ryder: Only played 15 games last year but upped his average to 90, which like McEvoy puts him on the verge of premium status. Unlike Big Bad Macca Voy, however, Ryder has Bellchambers and Hille to compete with meaning that he could become that swingman that will bring yo-yo type scoring. And, whilst I prefer more reliability from my premiums, this is the ruck we are talking about and injuries here seems almost obligatory. Threw up 80, 86 & 84 in 2011, 10 & 09, his breakout year. Is only 25 so should be approaching his peak period and is a freakishly talented athlete in the Nic Nat mould. Probably likely to get his 85-95, but not certain if he’ll go higher. One to watch before committing to I think.

Ben McEvoy: 457, 900 Broke out in 2011 with an 90 average and backed it up last season with 89. No obvious competition and if fit, his average could rise 5-10 ppg which not only makes him a cheaper premium, but gives you about 50 extra k to play with. Could be a great early season money making pick that may end up a keeper. Probably a less riskier bet than the injured Nic Nat, Kreuzer, Giles, Mummy, Goldy & HMac for only about 25k more.

Cheaper Options: Nic Nat is ready to fly like Mike but is injured. Jacobs has scored 87/88 in his 2 years as Adelaide ruckman. Is a good option if you think he hasn’t reached his ceiling and Jenkins isn’t going to take points away from him. Kruezer, the former #1 pick that has never played like one is now well over his injury and will be fired up by MM, but has competition in Warnock & Hampson. Better to watch and get on he does explode. Mummy is a great pick if he can stay on the park and probably undervalued, but will he last the 6 week stretch needed to raise his value back into the premium category and will horse keep in cotton wool? This why we stopped taking Darren Jolly seriously as a R1 after all. Giles was a great cash cow last year averaging 85 and is only 25. Despite all that I am unsure about his ability to put on the extra 10-15 needed. I tend to think that he’ll end up averaging 85-95 and could be a great R2. Again. HMac was my sneaky piece of genius in SC until he went down and I went to Mummy. Still pretty annoyed about his injury as his selection made everything fit nicely. Goldstein may end up as my pick dropping from 99 in 2011 as #1 ruckman after dropping to 79 last year as HMac returned from injury. @ 407k, you get 100k to play with and North is a rising team. Don’t think that Hale or Bellchambers will get enough exposure to run at R1 although Hird did flag an increased role for Bellchambers back in January.

That said, I’ve got Massive @ F2 and Maric at R1, but  I really, REALLY am warming to Goldstein.

What do you think? Let me know if you agree, or think that I’ve missed someone important in the comment thread below.

AARON SANDILANDS DREAM TEAM BLOW

Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands has ‘partialy’ torn his hamstring and will be out of action for 8 weeks.

The injury prone dream team superstar will now need to be replaced in many people’s sides including this scribe.

Although he is a proven high scorer, Sandilands has had a run of injuries over the last few seasons and questions remain about the suitability of grabbing him when he returns from injury.

Fortunately, the removal of trading restrictions allows us to trade him in and out during the year as needed.

We will probably need to watch him to see if he returns at or near full fitness.

What do you guys think about big 211? Is he a liability or will he be that p.o.d that can help get your warriors over the line?

RATE. MY. TEAM. 2013 VOLUME 1.

How is ya team shaping up? Got it sorted or you like the rest of us, tinkering and organising, praying that noone goes down, particularly the special under-priced selections that allows you turn that mid pricer into the extra gun that will set up your team nicely. With the removal of trading limits, getting your team right to begin with is even more crucial than ever.

Here is my first team -which I’ve subsequently changed- to give you something to pull apart and criticise, or, to give you a template of something you might think worthy of aiming towards and then surpassing.

DREAM TEAM CHAT TEAM MK 1

DEF: Goddard, H.Shaw, Gibbs, Broughton, Vlastuin, Staker … B.Goodes, Terlich

MID: Ablett, Pendlebury, Murphy, Fyfe, Ball, Mayes, Crouch, O’Meara … T.Mitchell, Viney

RUCK: Sandi, Louie … Witts, Rowe

FWD: Buddy, Cox, Zorko, Rocky, Bock, Varcoe … Maccafer, Dwyer

Ok, so put your teams in the same format and don’t forget that you need to critique other teams if you want help with yours….capiche?

HAMISH MACINTOSH SETBACK

Fantasy football favourite, Hamish MacIntosh has suffered a setback with his knee that will set him back at least three weeks. It’ll probably be more if we take seriously the words from Geelong that say they are taking the long term view with HMAC and will not rush him back. If you have him, jump off him and onto someone like Giles, Bellchambers, Goldstein or Mumford.

BRENT STAKER OUT

Brent Staker will be out for another six weeks after injuring his knee and undergoing surgery. This is a blow to many coaches who, like me, had this DPP pencilled in their defensive or forward lines. Still, he will still be cheap as chips when he returns to the Brisbane lineup and a possible option when we take two of our cows to the marketplace later on in the year.

2013 AFL FANTASY MATCH DAY LAUNCHED

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

272490-tlsnewslandscape.jpgCarlton star, and fantasty football gun Marc Murphy
AFL FANTASY players will have a third game format to try in 2013, with the introduction of AFL Fantasy Match Day.
Running alongside existing favourite AFL Fantasy Dream Team and the new, draft-based AFL Fantasy Elite, AFL Fantasy Match Day is the perfect introduction to what AFL Fantasy has to offer in 2013 – a quick and easy game played over a single AFL match.
Coaches will take part in a one-game contest, with each player selecting eight footballers – two defenders, three midfielders, one ruckman and two forwards – from the two competing teams.
The coach whose eight players score the most combined points wins, with an overall winner for each Match Day set to win a fantastic prize, details of which will be revealed soon.
Players can also accumulate points across the course of the selected games in order to be crowned their league champion in up to five different private or public leagues, which are unlimited in size.
Kicking off with the NAB Cup Grand Final, AFL Fantasy Match Day will be available for a selection of blockbuster matches throughout the home and away season, plus all finals matches, including:
Round 1 – Hawthorn v Geelong
Round 2 – Collingwood v Carlton
Round 5 – Essendon v Collingwood
Round 7 – Hawthorn v Sydney Swans
Round 9 – Richmond v Essendon
Round 16 – West Coast v Fremantle
Like the other two AFL Fantasy formats, AFL Fantasy Match Day is completely free to play.
Register for AFL Fantasy now and be the first to find out about more exciting developments ahead of the launch of the games on February 1.

COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES INJURY LIST

DAISY THOMAS

Recovering from an ankle injury and no certainty to play Round 1.

LACHLAN KEEFE

Wont return from his knee until mid year and hard to see him being fantasy relevant this year. Next year however…..

TYSON GOLDSACK

Is back in training after ankle surgery. Likely to play Round 1.

LUKE BALL

Ahead of schedule from his knee and will play Round 1. Well priced and if Lenny’s recovery last year is any guide could be a sneaky little money maker for a canny coach.

CLINTON YOUNG

Injured in 2011, fit in 2012, is nursing a hip? Appears on track for Round 1.

AFL’S NEW DRAFT FANTASY GAME: AFL FANTASY ELITE

By Staff writers Thursday, January 17, 2013

AFLFantasyEliteArticle.jpgWho will you choose?

AFL FANTASY players will have a new challenge to tackle in 2013, with the launch of draft-style game AFL Fantasy Elite.
Free to play and fully customisable, AFL Fantasy Elite pits coaches against one another under the pressure of a live draft, with each player able to be selected on only one team.
With the clock ticking, will you pick Dane Swan or Gary Ablett? Scott Pendlebury or Matthew Boyd? Lance Franklin or Dean Cox?
Getting it right could make your season. Get it wrong, and you’ll need to head to the trade table to strengthen your line-up.
Everything in the game – with the exception of how the points players earn are calculated, which is based upon AFL Fantasy Dream Team scores – is fully customisable by the league creator or ‘commissioner’, meaning you can choose the league size, squad size, trading rules and even competition start date that suits you.
The new game format will run alongside the traditional AFL Fantasy Dream Team game, which will continue this season.
Here’s all you need to know about AFL Fantasy Elite:
Setting up a league

The commissioner can start a new league to begin at any point throughout the 2013 home and away rounds, choosing between leagues with finals or one where the ladder leader at the conclusion of the league is the winner. You can also decide whether the league is private or open to the public for anyone to join.
Leagues can be customised to contain six, eight, 10 or 12 players, rolling lockouts (with changes to sides possible right up to the start of each individual game) or – as per the previously announced changes to AFL Fantasy Dream Team – fixed lockouts, and double or standard points for team captains.
Drafting
Before the draft takes place, you can set up your preferred and desired player draft list for
convenience during the live draft, which will also act as your auto-pick order if you are unavailable or take too long during the draft.
When it comes to setting up the draft, there are three options:
OPTION 1:
A live draft with all members of the league selecting turn by turn. Set your own time that each coach gets to make their pick – ranging from 60 seconds to no limit at all – take it in turns at your convenience when each coach makes a pick.
OPTION 2: An auto draft, where teams are automatically selected based on each fan’s preferred pre-draft selections.
OPTION 3: A live single computer draft, where a live draft takes place with each user taking turns to select on the same computer – or take it offline and let the commissioner submit each squad’s selections (this is only available in private league options).
The draft itself can be ordered in three different, easy-to-follow ways:
OPTION 1:
Snake draft, where the order is reversed each round
OPTION 2: Linear draft, where the order stays the same each round
OPTION 3: Banzai draft, where the order reverses in round two, stays the same in round three, and then continues as per the snake draft
Setting up the sides
There are a whopping seven different team structures to choose from in AFL Fantasy Elite, with two options of 12 players in each squad, four variations of 15 players, and one with a 22-man make-up:
• 2 defenders, 2 midfielders, 1 ruckman, and 2 forwards (with 5 additional players on the bench)
• 2-3-1-2 (4 bench)
• 2-2-1-2 (8 bench)
• 2-3-1-2 (7 bench)
• 3-3-1-3 (5 bench)
• 3-4-1-3 (4 bench)
• 5-6-2-5 (4 bench)
Once you’ve filled your on-field team via the draft, the next selections are your bench selections, with a ‘floating’ bench where, if you choose to activate the Auto-Emergency option during your league setup, your lowest scoring bench player can replace anyone who doesn’t play from your on-field starting side.
Waivers and Trading
Why would you have a player score a donut when you can waive an injured player and replace him from the unselected pool of players?
When a player is cut from an AFL Fantasy Elite team in your league, he is added to the ‘waiver pool’, where he can be picked up by other teams.
The waiver order can be customised as either reverse ladder order or last pick option, where the waiver order is never reset and coaches go to the bottom of the priority order after each successive pick.
You can also try to improve your team by trading with other coaches in your league – you can nominate a player to trade and then watch the offers roll in.  Or, make a direct trade offer for a player on another squad.
As per the fully customisable nature of AFL Fantasy Elite, the commissioner gets to decide how trades are approved:
• By veto vote from a percentage of coaches in the league
• Approved solely by the commissioner, or
• a free-for-all style system
Don’t panic, we’re here to help
If all of this sounds complicated, don’t fret – there are step-by-step guides to take you through the process, as well as an easy quick-pick option that will set up the draft for you based upon recommended options.
Or you can simply join a public league that is set up how you want to play the game.
Organising a draft party with your mates might be an option you want to consider; crazed fantasy fans sitting in bars with laptops glowing is a common sight in the US at the start of every season.
Commissioners can start creating leagues and inviting players to join their leagues on February 1, with the draft process able to be set from February 11.
At 12.30pm on Friday 18 February, there will be a live chat to answer any of your queries in regards to AFL Fantasy Elite.
In 2013, it’s a whole new world of AFL Fantasy – register now to be the first to know of more exciting developments ahead of the launch of the games on February 1.

NEW TRADING RULES FOR AFL FANTASY

http://www.afl.com.au/afl/news/2013-01-09/new-trading-rules-for-afl-fantasy

6:06pm AEDT Wednesday, January 9, 2013

270409-tlsnewsportrait.jpg
Dayne Beams became an elite fantasty football scorer in 2012
AFL FANTASY coaches will be allowed to make two trades a week, every round this season.

The change gives coaches a maximum of 46 trades, up from 24 in 2012.

However, with trades still limited to two per round, they cannot be saved up for later use.

The increased number of trades is one of several changes to the AFL’s official fantasy game.

The field structure has also been altered, with gameday squads now featuring six defenders, eight midfielders, two ruckmen and six forwards.

In previous seasons it has been seven-six-two-seven.

And coaches will also be allowed to set four emergencies each round, up from three in past seasons.

This gives teams the ability to cover for late changes on every line – backs, midfield, rucks and forwards – for the first time in the game’s history.

By popular demand, the green dot has been reinstated, giving coaches an easy snapshot of the ins and outs for their team every Thursday night.

Unlike its major competitor, AFL Fantasy will not introduce a rolling lockout, with teams to be locked at the bounce of the first game of each round.

This allows coaches the freedom to set their team for the weekend without having to worry about checking back before every match for late changes.

It makes AFL Fantasy the game for those who want to have a life beyond fantasy football.

As has already be announced, there will be a change in scoring during the bye rounds, with only the 18 best scores across each coach’s squad to count.

And AFL Fantasy will continue with the same, easy to understand scoring system, which makes it easier for coaches to follow the progress of their players during matches.

An announcement on new game formats will be made in the coming weeks.

ROUND 20 LIVE ACTION

Made one final, missed four, and four trades left over is the tale of my tape at this stage of the year. Will make a sneaky trade or two tonight, will make a decision on Dane Swan as well, not certain whether to trade or hold, I’m leaning towards holding. Feel free to post your scores in the usual format. This is score/players used/captain. scribble down any team changes, rumours, injuries, subs and your final situation in the thread below where you’ll find all of this weeks teams and hopefully someone will mention there when Buddy will be back, Treloar has been excellent cover, but, with Chappy also missing, I am in need of a miracle this week.

Good luck to your side this week.

ROUND 17 ACTION

How are you shaping? Who is getting it done, who is falling over? Put up your scores, players used & skipper. Tell us the subs, injuries, late changes etc that you’ve the scoop on, and, keep us up to date with your progress scores. Keep us in the trading loop if you traded, or, let us know if, like me, you kept your powder dry. Did you know that we are only three games away from finals? Let us know if you are playing in a ‘must win’ game, did you trade?

Good luck.

MONDAY MORNING GUNK

It’s the middle of our first cold winter in a few, and my misfiring team simply refuses to stay settled this year. This week Stevie J & Beau Waters join Goddard, Dusty & Pendlebury on my bench. This has been a weekly occurrence for me this year in this year to forget. Still managed to grab 1956 which is reasonable for a team missing 5 premiums.

Maybe my priorities are wrong, but I am more concerned about my faltering Dream Team/Super Coach team than I am about Collingwood losing to old rivals, Caaarlton. Of course, it is easy to point to the fact that they were ‘the better team on the night’ both times we played, or, to the fact that Collingwood are generally speaking, travelling o.k.

Managed to win two out of five battles and am out of the eight in all five competitions. Can make the eight in two leagues where I am presently sitting in ninth-mond, don’t look good in the other three, but I can @ least make it difficult for others in the run home, provided of course that I can field a half-decent team @ some point this year.

How about you? Did you win on the weekend? Did you beat me? Are you still in the Eliminator? Are you in the eight? What is your trading position? What did you score?

Let us all know in the thread below…..

Finally, just under 97% of respondents have opined that they do not want byes in next years AFL ‘fixture’. This is a great way for you to have your opinion heard, the more that vote, the more definitive the results are, so make sure you have your say & share this link with anyone else you fancy sharing with. The poll is obviously in this thread above with a couple more, so get clicking…..

Big game tonight between the Pies and the Blues. If you are on-line, feel free to post a comment, otherwise we’ll be here all weekend, so feel free to post subs, late changes, league results, rumours, trades etc in the thread below.

Let’s hope the Pies can get up tonight against a team that is better than it is being portrayed in the mainstream footy media…..Good luck to your team this weekend, Dream Team, SuperCoach Team or AFL Team.

Don’t forget to participate in the bye poll. This is a great opportunity for all footy fans to have your voice heard and your opinions counted.

DREAM TEAM CHAT LIVE–ROUND 14, THE RESUMPTION OF NORMAL TRANSMISSION

Back to normal programming, unless your like me & still have Pendlebury on the bench. Injuries & poor form have absolutely cruelled my ambitions in this game this year, so you may wish to avoid my latest recruit Sam Mitchell 😉

How about you? How are you travelling? Did you trade this week? Spill the beans, throw in any subs, late changes, rumours et al in the thread below & good luck to your mob this weekend, lord knows my mob needs some ….

ADIOS BYE ROUNDS….WHERE’S YOUR TEAM @?

Scored 1592 and have moved quickly to provisionally bring in Sammy Mitchell &  Sam Gibson for Shiel & Greene. This finishes the midfield group & leaves me with 180k to throw @ my next defensive upgrade. This will come in handy given the lack of growth in most of my cash cow defenders. Rucks are in a bit of strife for me as well from R2 down. Am hoping that Giles finds his sea legs as Zac Smith did after a mid season blip last year so I can grab another 2 def prems for finals. If it all goes to plan–pleeeease go to plan–then I’ll be cherry ripe come finals and wont need to trade out 1 or 2 of Dusty/Whitecross/Heater or Giles/Redden. Have 6 trades left after using 5 for last round/this round. My next bout of trades will come as the numbers fit for upgrades.

How are you placed @ the minute? Comment in the thread below…

ROUND 13 … LAST OF THE BYES … LIVE CHAT

Finally, we get to the end of the bye carnage, I’m relatively ok this week after the computer/trading disasters of last friday evening. Will have 4 donuts this week, two in defence, one mid and a forward. Have bought in Scott Thompson, Sam Shaw and rolled the dice on Corey D’Dell’Olio. He is a F9 in a settled forward line and hopefully will not require senior selection and made the deal fit. Except for this week. Please play. Gave up Cameron Guthrie, Kyal Horsely & Rhys Stanley so feel good about getting a gun. I want to bring in an under-priced Sam Mitchell cherry ripe from his bye next week to complete the mids next week then a defender the following week & I’ll be done until finals, presuming I make it.

Still, Geelong and Sydney have kicked things off, how are you placed this weekend? Spill the beans in the thread below, late changes, subs, your trades etc etc…

TRADING POLICIES

As we enter the last of the bye rounds, our thoughts begin to turn to the last 6 rounds of competition & finals. How are you placed? How many trades have you got left? Will you be trading 3 blokes this week to get that extra premium in, or are you going to be holding off in preparation for finals. Computer drama prevented me from trading last week so I am looking to trade today just in case I can’t get on-line later on in the week. I have 11 trades left, which, while is a good position to be in, is offset by the fact that injuries and poor form have stymied my efforts @ finalising my squad and poor league results which means I’ll need to probably make 4-7 trades to set me up for a finals crack. Mind you, I’m in some cracking leagues this year.

Complete the poll & reveal your trading intentions in the thread below….

ROUND 12 BYE SAGA PART 2 WRAP UP

Computer dramas have left me in limbo which makes me realise how important these devices are to my functionality. Still, we’re here to talk footy so how did you go? did you get badly burnt or did you trade your way out of it. I couldn’t get in to trade so am left with 11 trades, but have multiple donuts on most lines. I have heard that the AFL wants to expand the byes next year which will be a killer move for fantasy football in my opinion. Those that are good are happy to have these elements in place to illustrate their superior playing ability, but most people are not in that category so they play to be able to have their best cattle on the park and try to beat their mates. It is very similar to the decline in active players as the season progresses because lets face it, once you run out of trades, the game loses a big chunk of it’s appeal.
That said, we are nearly through and can start thinking about the run home, how are you placed? More importantly what is your score & thoughts on this weekend?

Talk in the thread below….

ROUND 11 ROUND UP

Injuries, byes, suspensions & rubbish scores on dream team would seemingly complete a terrible weekend, but no, I had a random bloke fall on me and my mac late sunday arvo destroying my screen in the process Taken me until today to get a replacement up and running and we are back into it tomorrow night. I’m not a fan of footy being played outside of weekend or public holiday hours so this will be an interesting test given this is the first time I’ve been on-line since late sunday arvo. Not sure what I’ll be doing trading wise @ this stage, but for those I scored a staggering 1,498 which amazingly gained me 4/5 wins. How’d you go?

How are you faring? Did you choose Redden over the big O? How about Krooza and the big 211? Can the Dees make it 2 in a row, will Swan run out on monday, and how many donuts are you planning on eating this weekend?

The best news is that Herr Demetriou is hinting that there will be SIX, yes SIX bye rounds next year. It could be the end of fantay football as we know it…….

Still, post your scores in the usual format, that being score/players used/GAJ, trades, subs, late changes, league results etc etc and whack em in the thread below.

ROUND 11, BYE ROUNDS PART 1-LET THE CARNAGE BEGIN!

The dreaded bye rounds are here! Are you prepared? What are your plans, trades, etc? Can you avoid the donut? I don’t think it’s possible. I’m missing two–one in the ruck– having made a triple trade bringing in Chappy, Stevie J & Marley Williams for JMac, Porpoise & D.Smith. I’ll probably have 4 out next week and anywhere between 1-3 the following week depending on trades.

MONDAY MORNING RECOVERY

2070 was enough to win me 4 out of 5 league battles, although I got thumped in the Eliminator. Gutted. How did you go?

Lettuce know in the thread below. Whack in your trading plans if you know them. I am looking @ a defensive prem if i can make it fit. Either way the D6/7 is a disaster for me with Bugg/Morriss/Ellis/Guthrie. I have no malice towards Lake & Clarke who have been mostly reliable, but a premium @ D 4 & 5 without upsetting the bye applecart is my biggest requirement as I type. Oh and I still have Stanley lingering on the bench.

INJURY CLAIMS

Swan out for 2-4, Murphy out for 4-12. What do you do? I have provisionally cashed Mummy into Jenkins and upgraded Smurf into Stanton. Mitigating circumstances on my Mid bench may force a rethink where I’m reliant on both JMac & Shiel to play so I can avoid the Swan/Greene donut. Then there is the Stanley injury. I will probably hold onto him as I want to use my 220k kitty to u/g my Defence. Guthrie is the natural choice, whilst 1 of Morris/Ellis need to be traded to balance out my defensive bye structure.  The D7 spot has been problematic for me of recent time, I hope that Ellis doesn’t cop the hat trick this week. Maybe Morris will be a candidate after a poor showing last up, but it is all part of the rookie risk. By the time I work through that, it’ll be hopefully time for Stanley to come back in.

Some rounds are tougher than others … How are you placed?

WEDNESDAY DREAM TEAM REVIEW

I’m in the middle of some laborious tasks that has & will be keep me occupied until possibly the middle of next week. Apologies for the paucity of articles during this period, I’ll do my best to get as many of the regular articles up as I can till my life calms down a little bit.

OK. That said, I’m wondering who it is that has really blossomed for you and who it is that hasn’t. For me, my prems are either injured–step up to the podium Messrs Shaw, Mumford, Fyfe,  & Ablett. One premium for everyline– or they have stunk it up on a semi or regular basis–hello messrs Heater, Goddard, Penders, Massive, Buddy, Dusty, Whitecross & Stanley. The rookies, as you’d expect, have been up and down.

Smurf would be ahead of Lids, Swanlow, Sidebottom, Giles & Bugg in the B & F if the votes were read right now. TWO rookies in my top 6 tells the tale of my tape so far. My side is shot, has no hope @ winning the overall & I’ll be lucky to make finals in most of my finals. The only thing left to me to do is to hold onto my trades until the market place allows my cash cows to be sacrificed which will hopefully give me a chance @ playing & winning finals.

So that’s my year in a nutshell …. How about you? What is working? What is failing? Comment in the thread below.
